Barbarians,
Thank you. Yesterday this Substack broke the 3000 subscriber mark. I’m thrilled and grateful.
Obviously, this couldn’t have happened without you, the subscribers!
I am in your debt.
As I’ve seen
, , and rise in the rankings for their clear, honest, and accurate energy reporting, I’ve been comforted by the strength of this potent insurgency against the conventional wisdom that passes for energy coverage in the mainstream press. I’m lucky to play whatever small part I have in this mission and to do so in such good company.Hitting 3k lets me know that I’m doing something right, despite taking this podcast in some (admittedly) weird directions. There’s more of that on the way, by the way. The feedback on the episodes with John and the bonus episode on some of the philosophical foundations of environmentalism have been almost uniformly positive. John and I wrapped recording on Machine in the Garden earlier this week and have resolved to do another reading series. We’re considering either Lewis Mumford’s Technics and Civilization or Michael Gillespie’s The Theological Origins of Modernity.
I believe there’s space here to fit philosophy and cultural context into this new wave of independent energy coverage. It can only help us better understand ourselves, our assumptions, and the terrain on which we fight for a more prosperous tomorrow.
Speaking of that—and of
—he has a new documentary coming out next week! It’s called Juice: Power, Politics and the Grid. And I’m in it! You can read his announcement post here.Check out the trailer!
Congratulations on reaching 3000! Currently on the journey to 3 myself 😆
Here’s to thousands more- well deserved man!
